Evaporative air coolers (commonly known as eco-friendly air conditioners or water-cooled air conditioners) have become a popular choice due to their low power consumption and ability to freshen air.
Unlike traditional compressor air conditioners, evaporative air coolers utilize the physical principle of "absorbing heat through water evaporation" for cooling.
When hot outdoor air passes through the machine's core component—the evaporative cooling pad (honeycomb filter)—water flows evenly across the pad, ensuring full contact between air and moisture, achieving cooling and filtration. Ultimately, cool, oxygen-rich air is delivered into the room.
This is a common misconception when using evaporative air coolers: never use them with windows closed!
Traditional air conditioners require a sealed space to maintain coolness.
Evaporative air coolers, however, require air circulation. Doors and windows must be opened to allow hot, humid air to escape; otherwise, indoor humidity will become too high, leading to a stuffy feeling.
Before use, ensure the water tank is filled with clean water.
Normal Cooling: Simply add tap water.
Powerful Cooling: Many models are equipped with an ice pack. Placing frozen ice cubes or ice crystals in the water tank can significantly lower the outlet temperature, providing a cooling sensation similar to air conditioning.
When only the fan button is turned on, it functions as a regular fan. The "Cooling" or "Humidifying" button must be pressed for the water pump to start working, delivering water to the evaporative cooling pad for true vaporization cooling.
To ensure the long-term operation of the evaporative air cooler and prevent odors, regular maintenance is essential:
Regular Water Changes: If the water in the tank is not changed for a long time, bacteria can easily grow or unpleasant odors may develop. It is recommended to change the water every 2-3 days.
Cleaning the Evaporative Cooling Pad and Filter: After prolonged use, dust will accumulate on the evaporative cooling pad and filter. It is recommended to rinse with clean water every two weeks to prevent clogging and ensure fresh airflow.
End-of-Season Drying: Before turning off the air conditioner for the new season, run it in "ventilation" mode for half an hour to allow the evaporative cooling pad to dry completely and prevent mold growth.
Energy Saving: Consumes only 1/8 to 1/10 of the power of a traditional air conditioner.
Improved Air Quality: Filters dust and increases negative air ions.
Healthy and Natural: Free of Freon pollution, provides moderate humidity, and is less likely to cause "air conditioning sickness."
By mastering the key points of using an evaporative air cooler—maintaining ventilation, regular cleaning, and using ice crystals—you can enjoy coolness while maintaining a healthy and environmentally friendly home life.
